The Beverage Alcohol Sellers and Servers Education and Training (BASSET) program is the state of Illinois' seller/server training program.

The program is an educational training tool that teaches alcohol sellers and servers to serve responsibly and stay within the law.

The BASSET Certification Program serves as a preventive measure to discourage overconsumption and keep drunk drivers off the roads.

Why Get BASSET Certified?

In July 2018, the Illinois Liquor Control Commission (ILCC) mandated that BASSET training is required for all on-premise alcohol servers and employees who check ID for alcohol service.

In addition, many businesses that sell alcohol for off-premises consumption require their staff to get certified and learn skills to prevent alcohol-related mishaps. Our BASSET certification program is ILCC-approved and accepted statewide in Illinois.

The ILCC encourages BASSET training for anyone who sells or serves alcohol, including employees of liquor stores, grocery stores and convenience stores. BASSET training can also reduce an establishment's liquor liability insurance.   • Enroll in BASSET Alcohol Training: On-Premise class (for bars and restaurants) or Off-Premise class (liquor, convenience or grocery store)
  • Verify you chose the correct course. Select On-Premise if you work in a bar or restaurant. Select Off-Premise if you work in a liquor, convenience or grocery store.
  • Fill out your personal information that is required.
  • Complete the registration process.
  • Complete the BASSET Alcohol training course online.
  • Print your certification immediately.
  • Receive your official BASSET card in the mail.
